ABOUT US...

WE ARE

REACH

ADVOCACY SCOTLAND

We are a grassroots charity who believe in making rights accessible.

To promote this, we have developed the first human rights-based advocacy award which is accredited at level 7 by SCQF. This qualification is SQA approved. The course expands individual's knowledge and understanding of human rights and advocacy, promoting the fulfillment and protection of human rights in our society.

At REACH, we believe that communities know best, therefore upon individuals completing training, we encourage communities to apply for funding to establish a human rights-based advocacy service in their locality. In doing so, REACH want to ensure sustainability is at the heart of this educational model.

SO...

WE ALL HAVE RIGHTS.

How do we make them accessible to all?

At REACH  we offer education and training in human rights based advocacy.

As the training focuses on human rights, it is relevant for everyone and covers all protected characteristic groups.

We offer two different programmes :

REACH workshops .

REACH delivers  1 day  workshops for frontline organisations and staff.

These workshops show how to apply a human rights based approach in their work with patients and clients.

Out of 7 workshop groups made up of 12-15 candidates in each, on average.

To be healthier
we need to be fairer...

The only way to create a fairer society is to make sure every human’s rights are met.

OUR WHY

“To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.”
Nelson Mandela,
South African civil rights activist

OUR STORY

We have always believed education is the gateway for creating lasting social change.

REACH Advocacy was formed in 2010.

By 2013 we had received SQA approval of the advocacy practice award.

By 2015  we had achieved approved training centre status, so we could put individuals through SQA accredited awards.

Until 2017 we were entirely self funded. In 2017 Reach secured funding from the Big Lottery. We were the first dedicated rights-based advocacy service for substance use and mental health and we also delivered the SQA advocacy award to local individuals.

We are delighted to report that in October 2020 the first group of rights-based

advocates in Partnership with LASS have secured funding to have a rights based advocacy service for substance use and mental health.

In 2021 we were fortunate to be funded by Drug Death Task Force (DDTF) to deliver Human Rights Based Awareness workshops & Accredited rights based training to workforce and communities across Scotland
